quick writing exercise. (The Old Guard Eats Breakfast On Mars.)

I sat down earlier today, with the idea to write a little something that wasn't my novel. It's a fragment of some other silly story roaming around my brain. It was fun to write, and I have no plans yet for it. But i thought I'd share it, just because. The Old Guard Eats Breakfast On Mars. “The Near Future,” is here on Mars, sitting in a diner: his electric teeth making short work of some better than average Martian Bacon.  He dips his one flesh and blood finger into the eggs, piercing the yolk, watching it burst open a bright green martian yolk, as green as your favourite Earth egg is yellow, and as delicious, as he feels his pulse with his tongue whilst licking the green goo from his last human finger, he looks up and across to his dining companion, and former sidekick: the former “Sparky Jones Jr.” is now more often than not called Morty, by everyone he still talks to, which really is very few given his self imposed exile here on Mars, away from all the action o...

a script of some sort that I started and sputtered out on. I think I might adapt it as a group of short stories or a novel

I started this script last winter, sort of out of the blue, i've still got the big story of it running through my brain; but I'm starting to think I might adapt it as a novel as opposed to a video script, which was my initial fantasy, to make a web serial for discerning Superhero comic fans. So yeah, this is a draft. I think it sets up things pretty well, but am aware of it's 1st draftiness. I have part of episode 2 done, and a lot of plotting.  The Return Of The Blinking Fist   _ A Modern Serial. TITLE CARD :  The Return Of The Blinking Fist   _ A Modern_Serial. …Episode 1 FADE TO : [scene 1] An Aging (40-something) retired Vigilante is splayed out on his sofa…day dreaming of his glory days (with a joint hanging from his lips… ) Fantasy Sequence Cartoonized & Idealized yet recognizable younger version of the aging Vigilante ( LEONARD SINGAPORE )  beating his “BLINKING FIST” Kung Fu into various “Henchm...

Holy Crap, I wrote a Poem.

about  Sir Bedivere, of all things. Here's a post about my creative process... I've been slowly, very slowly for the last few years been working on turning my couple of "King Arthur Poems" { "That Bitch Morgana", "That Bastard Merlin, Fucking Launcelot, and Galahad Recalls"} into a longer bunch of King Arthur poems, and maybe some prose bits that might approach being stories. tied all together in the voice of an elderly outlived them all Dowager Queen Guinevere. She's feisty, and shares a lot of blasphemy and heresy, but her stories are fun, so people listen and let her talk. That's the idea of it as a book. some bits are her poetic voice, or her voice poetically, other parts are her weaving her memories into a version of various Arthurian Stories, of my own devising. I've all the titles and ideas for most of the stories and poems. For the last two years, though I haven't had any poetic inspiration, though I've got some...

1st chapter of one of my 3 day novel contest entries

What we have here is the first bit of one of my four attempts at doing the 3 day novel contest, over the last 30 years or so, I've entered 4 times, "finished" and sent in a manuscript the second two times. I've re-written bits over the years but mostly it's a hopeless derivative mess. there are bits like this opening that i really like. i hope a few others do too, as the odds of me ever finishing this or any of my "novels" is pretty slim, I think. anyway... The Sleepyhead Gang A Novel written in 3 days By Joe Boyce Burgess * Author’s note: the cities and towns and even some of the characters in this are based on real historical people and\or places. However, I have not attempted to recreate anything in any sort of historically accurate manner. It is all a fevered fancy. 1. The Bay Street Liars Club Myra, that kid, she had attitude and style, a mouth like Barbara Stanwyck and the almost Chinese eyes of Myrna L...

1st chapter of one of my many unfinished novels.

This one obviously relates to what I'm doing with my life now. I started it about 12 or 13 years ago, I have several more chapters done in notebooks, but they aren't computer/editing ready yet, let alone 1st reading/blog entry ready. Hopefully putting this up, now lights a fire under my butt to get those further chapters up here sooner than later. but for know here it is... over 3000 words, so be warned... long post. What You Wish For A Novel (long in progress) By Josie Boyce Chapter 1 The first thing I noticed was the blood. There was a lot of blood that day; that first day that my dreams sort of came true. I opened my eyes as the sun was just starting to emerge through the quarter inch of ice on my window. My new red digital alarm clock blinked 7:49 AM as it squelched  out that old Jackson 5 song “1-2-3 A-B-C” from it's tin speakered "not quite picking up the crappy signal" signal. I seemed to have bit my tongue in my sleep and blood...

With A Twist

is the title of this little dialogue piece that I've been writing and re-writing, but never getting much further than this, I do have a few more chapters in various notebooks, I'm going to search through and get that stuff added, as the next part, as soon as i can. For now, this is a fun experiment for me. As to whether it has legs or is any good at all, I have no idea. But i'm really warming to the idea of just throwing stuff like this up here, warts and all, just to feel some kind of small accomplishment with my doodling writing. With A Twist  By Josie Boyce 1. Bette Noire's Confession (As Told To Officer Randolph Runyon) Of course I lied to him. I'm the frail... right?  I couldn't come right out and give him the whole sordid story all at once. It's just not done. Let me back up and start at the beginning. Well, not quite the beginning; but the beginning of my relationship with Mr. Book. I still can't say his name without smil...
